FAQs
Muraflo Products
Common questions about our products.
The base is made of composites that make it strong, lightweight, and waterproof. The finish materials are regular finish materials – ceramic and porcelain tile and mosaics, natural stone and pebble mosaics, polymer modified high-performance grout, and anodized trim - which we source from manufactures including Daltile, American Olean, Zen Paradise, Schluter, and HB Fuller.
Depending on the size and finish materials, our pans weigh between 42-90 lbs. See our Product Sheets for weight guidelines per Collection.
In some cases yes. If you are interested in purchasing a product which is not one of our standard products (standard products are those that you see on our website), you can contact us via phone or email to order a custom product. You can let us know your requested specifications - including size, drain type and location, and finish materials – and we will let you know if we can manufacture it and what the price will be. Please note that custom products are non-returnable.
Measure your shower alcove length and width. Muraflo pans come in multiple standard sizes across five design collections, making it easy to match many U.S. bathroom layouts. If you need a custom size, just contact us.
To accurately estimate the size of your shower area, measure: width (left to right) from stud to stud and; depth (back to front) from stud to front of shower. You can make holes in your current shower walls to reach the stud. You can hire a professional to carry out all the measurements, pre-installation checks, and any necessary remedial work.
Go to our shop pages and click on a shower pan you are interested in. You will find all descriptions, diagrams, and specifications on that product’s page. Please review all the technical information prior to purchase.
Yes. The ceramic mosaics on our ceramic-finished shower pans meet or exceed the recognized standard for slip resistance in wet areas (called DCOF).
The pebble and stone mosaics on our pebble/stone-finished shower pans are generally not tested by their manufacturer for slip resistance. However, the pebbles/stones in these mosaics are sliced in a way that creates an abrasive surface and the joints between them are grouted with an abrasive sanded grout.
Proper maintenance is crucial as improper maintenance can result in a build-up on the surface of the tile causing tile mosaics to become slippery. (Refer to our Care and Maintenance Guidelines.)
As with any raised shower pan with a front curb, our standard products are not ADA compliant. You can contact us via phone or email to request an ADA compliant shower pan.
Yes, our tiled shower pan products have a three-year limited residential warranty. Read it here.
For tight spaces, look for a lightweight, pre-sloped pan that installs without extra framing or mess. Muraflo’s pre-tiled designs are ideal for small bathrooms, reducing labor in confined areas.
“Base” and “pan” have differences in their purpose, materials, and installation. “Base” refers to the structural foundation for functional support. This is installed first. “Pan” refers to what you see – tile, mosaics, acrylic, fiberglass – and is installed on top of the base. Muraflo is both—a complete tiled shower pan that functions as both a pan and a base.
Traditional tiled pan installations take time, make mess, and involve multiple skilled labor. Muraflo = less time, less mess, and less people—while combining real tile aesthetics with the strength and reliability of a one-piece waterproof pan.
If you've ever had a shower pan that has leaked, you know that fixing leaks usually means re-tiling or replacing the shower pan entirely. Choose Muraflo's pre-tiled pans to eliminate this risk—every unit is factory waterproof-tested, with zero leaks reported in our shower pans.

Shower Pan Installation
Common questions about shower pan installation.
We recommend that shower pan installation be carried out by a licensed contractor or equally qualified professional. However, if you are an experienced DIY homeowner, you may be able to install the shower pan, as no tiling and grouting skills are required. Ensure you or your installer watch our installation films and read our full instructions. Damage occurring during installation and improper installation is the responsibility of the installer and is not covered in our warranty.
Unlike traditional shower pans that take 2–3 days because of mortar curing and tiling, Muraflo pans install in under an hour with a tiled, waterproof design.
Muraflo does not offer installation service. Ensure you and your installer access our installation films and instructions on our Installation Page.
No, Muraflo tiled shower pans do not require hot mop.
Installation of the drainpipe, and connection of drainpipe to drain body, must be carried out by a licensed plumber for warranties to be valid. Ensure your plumber reads our Installation Instructions and watches our Installation Films - available on our Installation Page and in your Owner Manual – for all details pertaining to the drain and drainpipe.
We recommend using a polymer-modified thin-set mortar cement.
Yes, with the requirement that the subfloor is structurally sound, stable, level, evenly flat, and firm, and allows for adequate opening around the drainpipe. Have your installer access our Installation Instructions and Films - available on our Installation Page and in your Owner Manual – for full details.
Most pans require a separate waterproof membrane or coating. Muraflo requires none—it’s factory waterproofed and pre-sloped to the drain for worry-free installation.
Contractor-conventional tile pans can cost $1,500–$5,000. Muraflo can save homeowners and contractors $100s-1000s by eliminating labor-intensive waterproofing, tiling and grouting. Talk to your installer about what they will charge - knowing that there is no waterproofing, tiling and grouting involved - and that the work will take a fraction of the time of other tile shower pan methods.
Post-Installation
Common questions about post-installation.
We highly recommend that you hire a licensed contractor or equally qualified professional to make or remodel your bathroom, including installing walls around your Muraflo shower pan. They will be responsible for installing your walls in a correct and code-compliant way.
Our pans have an integrated flange around three sides (left, right, back). Your bathroom professional will install your walls by placing them in front of the flange. For conventional wall tiling, ask your bathroom professional to follow best practices for waterproofing and installing ceramic tile for prefabricated receptors.
Your tiled shower pan will arrive with an Owner Manual. The manual tells you how to look up the make, collection, and color of all finish materials on your product (including tile, mosaic, trim, or grout). You can use these details to source matching finish materials for your bathroom.
